Aldi parking fine appeal

Aldi Parking Fine Appeal: Receipt, Overstay and PCN Guide

Quick answer If you received an Aldi parking fine or Parking Charge Notice, check the operator, deadline, ANPR times, maximum-stay signs and your shopping evidence. If you were a genuine customer, keep your receipt or bank proof. Appeal to the parking operator first and attach evidence; POPLA or IAS may apply after rejection.

An Aldi parking fine is usually not a council fine. In most cases it is a private Parking Charge Notice issued by a parking operator managing an Aldi store car park. That means the route is normally operator appeal first, then POPLA or IAS if the first appeal is rejected and the rejection letter gives that route.

Aldi's help pages say that if you have been charged by mistake, your receipt can help put things right, and they direct customers to the parking appeal page or to contact Aldi. That does not mean every Aldi parking charge will be cancelled. It means your customer evidence matters, and you should use the formal appeal route shown on the notice while also keeping proof of any contact with Aldi.

First: check who issued the Aldi parking charge

The notice might mention Aldi, but it is often issued by a private parking operator. Check the company name, reference number, date, deadline and appeal web address. The appeal route usually follows the parking operator's process, not a council PCN process.

What you seeWhat it usually meansWhat to do
Parking Charge Notice from a private operatorPrivate parking charge for alleged breach of Aldi car park terms.Appeal to the operator using the method and deadline on the notice.
ParkingEye / Euro Car Parks / another operatorA company may manage the car park and ANPR/payment systems.Use the appeal portal or address shown on the notice and attach evidence.
Rejected appeal with POPLA codeThe operator may be in the BPA route.Check the 10-digit code, deadline and upload all evidence to POPLA.
Rejected appeal mentioning IASThe operator may be in the IPC route.Read the IAS rules and be careful about payment before or during appeal.
Debt collector or Letter Before ClaimLater-stage demand, not a normal first appeal.Check the deadline, ask for evidence if appropriate, and do not ignore court-related papers.

Common Aldi parking fine situations

Aldi car park appeals often turn on customer evidence, ANPR timing, payment-machine issues, maximum-stay signs or whether the operator has fairly considered the situation. Do not rely only on saying you were shopping. Show it.

SituationEvidence to collectAppeal focus
Genuine Aldi customerReceipt, bank statement, app payment, store visit proof or loyalty/payment history.Ask Aldi/operator to match the visit to the shopping evidence and review cancellation.
Overstayed the maximum stayReceipt time, queue delays, mobility issues, checkout delays, photos of signs.Explain why the stay was connected to the visit and whether grace/consideration time applies.
ANPR double-dipProof of leaving and returning, receipts elsewhere, work records, location history.Ask the operator for full ANPR logs and challenge the assumption of one continuous stay.
Wrong registration enteredPayment receipt, VRM entered, correct registration, bank proof.Ask for payment logs to be checked against the vehicle and parking period.
Blue Badge or disability issueBadge evidence, medical/mobility context, appointment/caring records, photos of signs.Explain the disability-related circumstances and ask for fair review/reasonable adjustment.
Payment/app/machine problemScreenshots, failed payment proof, machine photos, bank records, support messages.Show that you attempted to comply and ask for the payment-system evidence.

Aldi receipt evidence: what helps most?

Receipt evidence is powerful because it connects you to the store. It is not automatically enough on its own, especially if the issue is a long overstay or no-return rule, but it can support a fair cancellation request.

Stronger customer evidence

  • Aldi receipt showing date, store and transaction time.
  • Bank statement showing Aldi payment on the same date.
  • Proof of a large shop, queue delay or assistance needed.
  • Photos of unclear signs or confusing maximum-stay terms.
  • Evidence that ANPR times do not match one continuous stay.
  • Aldi customer service reply or store manager confirmation.

Weaker points

  • Only saying you were shopping without proof.
  • Evidence from a different Aldi branch or different date.
  • Ignoring the appeal deadline while waiting for Aldi to reply.
  • Assuming a receipt cancels every overstay automatically.
  • Paying first and assuming you can still appeal later.
  • Sending a generic template that does not match the notice.

Should you contact Aldi as well as the parking operator?

Often, yes — but do it carefully. The parking operator may control the formal appeal deadline, while Aldi may be able to review customer evidence or raise the issue with the operator. Contacting Aldi does not automatically pause the operator's deadline unless the operator confirms that.

Send Aldi a short, factual message with the store, date, parking charge reference, receipt or bank proof, vehicle registration and why the charge seems unfair. Then still follow the formal appeal route on the Parking Charge Notice unless you receive clear confirmation that the charge has been cancelled.

Short teaser wording only:
"I was a genuine Aldi customer on the date shown and have attached proof of my store visit. Please ask the parking operator to review the charge against my receipt, ANPR record and the circumstances before enforcement continues."

Overstay, no-return and ANPR timing issues at Aldi

Many supermarket car park charges are based on ANPR entry and exit times. ANPR records show when a vehicle passed cameras, not necessarily when the driver parked, read signs, queued, paid, loaded shopping or left a bay. If the issue is a short overstay, collect evidence around the store visit and any delay.

If the issue is a possible double-dip, the operator may have matched the first entry with the final exit even though there were two separate visits. This is particularly important for supermarket car parks where someone may visit in the morning and later return for another shop.

What if the Aldi parking charge is from ParkingEye?

Some Aldi-related parking charges may involve ParkingEye or another private parking operator. If the operator is ParkingEye, use the instructions on the notice and keep copies of everything submitted. If the first appeal is rejected and a POPLA verification code is issued, POPLA may be the next route. Do not submit to POPLA until you have the code and the operator rejection letter.

POPLA says you need the 10-digit verification code, the Parking Charge Notice number, your details, appeal grounds and supporting evidence, and that evidence should be added up front. IAS cases are different and the IAS says the operator may refuse or withdraw an appeal if the charge is paid before or during the appeal.

What to ask the parking operator for

If the charge is not cancelled at first appeal, ask the operator to explain and evidence its case. Keep the request focused. You want the operator to show why the charge is still being pursued despite customer evidence.

Ask forWhy it matters
ANPR entry and exit imagesConfirms the vehicle images, timestamps and whether a double-dip issue is possible.
Full payment or terminal logsUseful where payment, VRM entry, validation or location code is disputed.
Signage evidenceShows whether maximum stay, customer-only terms, no-return rules and charges were clear.
Landholder authorityAsks the operator to confirm authority to manage and enforce at that Aldi site.
POPLA or IAS routeImportant if the first appeal is rejected and an independent appeal route applies.

Debt collector or £170 Aldi parking letter

If the Aldi parking charge has gone to a debt collector or has increased to around £170, do not treat it like a normal early appeal. Check whether the letter is from a debt collector, a solicitor/Letter Before Claim, or the County Court. These are different stages.

You can still dispute the underlying parking charge and ask for evidence, but you must pay close attention to the latest deadline. If you receive actual court papers, consider qualified advice quickly and do not rely on a normal appeal template.

FAQ

Can Aldi cancel a parking charge?

Aldi may be able to help where you were a genuine customer and have evidence, but the formal process usually depends on the parking operator. Do not miss the operator appeal deadline while waiting for a reply.

Is an Aldi parking fine a real fine?

It is usually a private Parking Charge Notice, not a council Penalty Charge Notice. It should still be taken seriously because the operator may continue enforcement if it is unpaid and unresolved.

What if I lost my Aldi receipt?

Use other evidence if available, such as a bank statement, card transaction, app record, witness evidence, store visit proof or correspondence with Aldi customer service.

Can I appeal if I overstayed at Aldi?

Yes, but you need evidence. Explain the reason for the overstay, attach customer proof, show any delay or disability-related circumstances, and check whether the signs and timings were clear.

Can I use POPLA for an Aldi parking charge?

Only if the operator rejects your first appeal and provides a POPLA verification code. If the operator uses IAS instead, follow the route on the rejection letter.

Should I pay the Aldi parking charge before appealing?

Do not assume you can pay first and still appeal. Some routes may be affected if the charge is paid. Check the notice and appeal rules before paying.

What if I have a DCBL or Debt Recovery Plus letter about Aldi parking?

Check whether it is a debt collector letter, Letter Before Claim or court claim. Debt-stage letters are different from first appeals, so ask for evidence and treat formal deadlines seriously.
